Using the Meta Tag Generator

To use the meta tag generator, fill in the meta tag fields that you want to use for your web pages and click “Create Meta Tags.” This will generate meta tags for the fields you selected. Then, copy the meta tags in the text box at the bottom of this page and paste them into the source of your web page document between the <head> and </head> HTML/XHTML tags.

Meta Tags & Search Engines Today

Search engines employ different methods of organizing and ranking data collected from their search engine spiders or “bots.” Search engines still index title and description meta tags and display them in search engine results pages (SERPS). Some search engines continue to use meta tags as a minor factor in their ranking algorithms. Generating meta tags for your HTML/XHTML pages will not likely not obtain high search engine results page (SERP) placement.

Today, meta tags are more helpful in aiding search engines and directories with categorization, especially when including the appropriate keywords in the title tags and keyword and description meta tags. Many generator programs make it easy for users to build meta tags without editing the source code by hand. The online version of Metty, Clickfire’s freeware meta tag maker makes it easy to create the title and meta tags for search engine optimization and indexing.

Metty Online Meta Tag Generator Version Update – 1.1

XHTML rules require that non-container tags end with a terminating slash and that tags be written in lower case. We’ve reworked the meta tag generator to output meta tags in accordance with these XHTML rules. For example, where the old HTML 4.0 description meta tag may have looked like this:

<META NAME=”description” content=”Clickfire empowers webmasters with free resources”>

It now appears this way:

<meta name=”description” content=”Clickfire empowers webmasters with free resources.” />
